There are many components to Natural Stone Restoration. Restoration is simply the process and methods utilized to bring the Terrazzo or stone back to its original (newly installed) condition. If the stone is deeply scratched it may require Grinding. This step typically uses diamond abrasives in the range below 200 grit. Most of the Terrazzo, Marble, Limestone and Travertine that we restore does not require Grinding. Honing is typically the starting point on most stone floors. Honing utilizes diamonds in the 200-400 grit range. Honing does a nice job of smoothing the surface and removing surface scratches but does not produce a shine. It creates a nice, smooth, matt finish. Polishing is the process of utilizing diamond resins in the 800 grit and higher range. After polishing the floor will be incredibly smooth and very reflective. We are experts at restoring terrazzo and other natural stone to its original beauty. Using industrial diamond resins, Italian polishing powders and specialized equipment this beautiful floor can be brought to an amazing shine without covering it with waxes, acrylic or polishes. Many people have hired companies who coated their Terrazzo with some type of floor finish. While this may make the terrazzo look shiny, it is actually a temporary coating that must be stripped and refinished over and over again. With diamond polishing, a fine layer of the Terrazzo is removed through the use of increasingly finer diamond resins to make it shine naturally. The surface becomes so smooth that it reflects light on its own, without the use of polymers. We love restoring the Terrazzo in our home town of Gainesville.
